So, you know you want to try period pants. Or maybe you’re trying to get your daughter on board to make her new life with a period more comfortable. The real question is which ones to go for. Unfortunately, period pants can have an expensive up-front cost, even if this pays off in the long run, so you want to go for something you know you will use again and again. For anyone, it’s a hard choice. Will they fit? What size shall I order? What materials are they made out of? How long will they last? So many questions, with too many answers. For teens, it can be even harder to find a product which suits their body and the potential unpredictability of their flow. 1.  Will they fit?

 If you’re going to be wearing a special pair of pants for your period, they’re going to need to fit comfortably. You need to find a pair of pants that strikes the balance between being secure enough to prevent leaks, but not so tight that you want to take them off. Of course, it’s important that you can choose a pair of pants to fit your specific size, which will vary as you grow.

2.     What material are they made of?

We probably all know by now that we should take note of what is going into our period products. 48% of pads and 22% of tampons were found to contain PFAs, linked to a range of health issues by the EPA. We tend to think of period pants as a healthy alternative to these products, but shockingly, they were also found in 65% of period underwear. So it’s important to do some thorough research and choose pants that are PFA free, but also made from organic fibres rather than synthetics.

3.     Can I wear them all day?

Whether you’re at work, school, college, or staying at a friend’s for the weekend, it’s important that you can wear your period pants all day without needing to change them too many times. We’d all definitely prefer to be able to stay home at rest on our bleed, but we know that sometimes life just gets in the way.
